Wencheng Princess Monastery
The Princess Wen Chen Temple of Thrangu Monastery located at Binang valley,20 km outside Jekudo city. The temple offers a Maha Vairojnana Statue. According to the Buddhist interpretation,this statue has the equivalent blessing effects than the Buddha Sakyamuni Statue located at Jokong Temple in Lhasa. It’s the origin of Buddhism in East Kham,has a history of 1300 years. It’s the first Buddha statue and temple in Yushu.
Princess Wen Chen first came to Tibet at A.D. 641. She was married to King Sonzen Gonpo. While on the way to Tibet,Princess Wen Chen took a rest at Jekudo where her Temple is now located. She is the manifestation of White Tara. The Chinese Government announced that the Princess Wen Chen Temple as heritage preserved building effective December 30,1957. According to the legend, you have not visited Yushu unless you have been to Princess Wen Chen Temple. This temple was managed by Thrangu Monastery starting from Song / Yuan dynasty. It has been renovated and rebuilt by Thrangu Monastery several times. Regular pujas participated by monks is held each year during Losar,as well as during summer and autumn. The monastery and individual retreat huts nowadays were rebuilt under the supervision of Treleg Kyagon Rinpoche before the cultural revolution. Treleg Rinpoche was certified by the Chinese Government as one of the "Three Kyagon". He was being painted as a patron on the left side of the wall at the entrance of the temple.
